BHUBANESWAR: Nearly four months after Deputy Inspector General of Police Jaswinder Singh was killed in Koraput district under mysterious circumstances, the Crime Branch of the State police on Monday filed the charge-sheet in the case naming the two policemen who were the late officer's personal security officers as accused. The charge-sheet was submitted in the court of the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) of Laxmipur by R.P. Khadanga, Deputy Superintendent of Police from the Crime Branch. The charge-sheet reportedly charged the two accused - Seshananda Sarangi and Ashis Kumar Sarangi - of committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The charge-sheet has been filed under Sections 304, 201 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. DIG Jaswinder Singh was killed on October 23 when he was traveling from Sunabeda in Koraput district to Padampur in neighbourhing Rayagada district. Although it was immediately said that the officer was shot dead by suspected Maoists, the police had changed their stand the next day saying that the DIG had fallen victim to a bullet that was fired from the pistol of one of his bodyguards. It was later clarified that a total of two bullets had been fired and the bullet which hit the head of Jaswinder Singh was fired from the pistol held by PSO Seshananda Sarangi. It was indicated that the bullet that hit Singh was accidentally fired.
