Reporter's Diary

Neglected bus stand

All the talk of improving the city infrastructure ignores the Broadway bus stand (near the Flower Bazaar telephone exchange on NSC Bose Road). The road at the bus stand is uneven and dusty. About the condition of the "exit road," the less said the better. Adding to the commuters' woes are bus drivers who stop their vehicles anywhere but at the earmarked bays in the bus stand.

Shock for police

A special police party from Madhavaram had the shock of their life when they went to recover a stolen LCD television set, which they found atop a hut.

They discovered during the course of their investigations that two security personnel of a godown, where the television sets were stored, had systematically pilfered expensive sets and sold them for a song.

When police interrogated the security personnel, they came to know that the sets were sold to people in slum areas for a pittance. A posse that went to recover the stolen property, found an expensive LCD set on top of a hut. The seller claimed that as staff of the TV manufacturing company, they got the LCD set for a very cheap price. But why on top of the hut? No space inside!

Lucky break

It was about 9 a.m on Monday, when the morning rush hour was at its worst at Kathipara junction.

Amid the swirling traffic, with vehicles taking a curve from GST Road onto Inner Ring Road and Mount Poonamallee Road, a young man tried to jump into a moving bus, but failed.

He fell with a loud crash raising the heartbeats of all those around. Fortunately, there was a gap in the traffic that allowed him to get up without harm, though dazed.

Still, the man would not give up. He tried to chase the bus, but the policemen, who were manning the junction, were incensed at his act.

They gave him a piece of their mind.

It appears such foolhardy young men are legion in the city.
