Board approves name change

MUMBAI: The board of directors of HLL has approved the change in the name of the company from Hindustan Lever Ltd. to Hindustan Unilever Ltd. The change of name is subject to shareholders' approval at the annual general meeting.

The company believes that the proposed name change provides the optimum balance between maintaining the heritage of the company and the future benefits and synergies of global alignment with the corporate name of Unilever. Most importantly, the proposed name retains `Hindustan' as the first word to reflect the company's continued commitment to the local economy.

According to M. K. Sharma, Vice-Chairman, HLL, "it will give us opportunities for global sourcing of raw materials and it will be easier to approach suppliers and enjoy better rates. Even sourcing out of India will become far more acceptable. It will also assist in attracting and retaining talent both locally and internationally, a key imperative for business success in the present day context."
