GAME ON: Action from the Kerala-Tamil Nadu veterans' one-day match played at the Corporation Stadium, Kozhikode. - Photo: S. Ramesh kurup
The organisers of the India-Pakistan veterans' one-day cricket match, to be played at the Corporation Stadium on Sunday, must be keeping their fingers crossed and hoping it would not be a low-scoring affair like the Kerala-Tamil Nadu veterans' game last weekend. That match saw Kerala struggling to get 131, as the hosts failed even to use the 35 overs it was allotted, having been bowled out in 25.1 overs. But Tamil Nadu managed to score just 77. And the match was played on the same wicket, at the Corporation Stadium, on which Mohammmad Azharuddin's Indian side would be taking on Abdul Qadir's Pakistan team. "I am sure Sunday's match will produce lot more runs," says J.K. Mahendra, vice-president, Board for Veteran Cricket in India. "This is easily a 250-plus track. The problem with last Sunday's game was that there were a few wet spots on the wicket," Mr. Mahendra said. Meanwhile, the ticket sails are picking up. "We have already sold tickets to the tune of Rs.2 lakh at our branches in Kozhikode and Tirur alone," says T. Anil Kumar, cluster head, ING Vysya Bank, Kozhikode.
