Globalisation has been good in parts. It has ushered in a host of new trends, some of which are widely welcomed. It has given way to fashion shows and beauty pageants. Is sashaying on the ramp a mode of celebration of beauty? There are people who beg to differ. The detractors organised a parallel beauty pageant on the eve of the Miss Kerala contest in the city. The organisers paraded several buffaloes before the public and crowned the "most beautiful" beast. Of course, there were no special prizes for beautiful skin or teeth.
