Tennis training programme

GURGAON: The National Tennis Academy (NTA), situated on the Pataudi Road, far from the distractions of the city, will play host to two dozen young foreigners over the next three weeks.

As per the Indo-Iran initiative, 21 children from Iran, including six girls, have arrived at the venue for training in the programme under chief coach T. Chandrasekaran. Three Pakistani kids were scheduled to join on Wednesday.

The whole lot along with the Indian youngsters will have a Talent Series junior tournament in the third week to assess their short-term development and gain competitive exposure.

"We will have physical conditioning in the morning followed by two sessions of work-out on court in the day'' said Chandrasekaran, who has been helping the kids from the North-Eastern State at the Academy apart from youngsters from the tsunami affected parts in Andaman and Nicobar.

The programme was inaugurated by the Ambassador of Iran, Siyavash Zargar Yaghobi, here on Tuesday.

Lauding the programme, the Ambassador goaded the trainees to make the best use of it, and hoped that the Indian kids would be hosted in Iran in a similar programme in the future, in a possible attempt to strengthen the bond between the two countries. — Special Correspondent
