No. 1 spot won't distract the side: Smith

Durban: South African captain Graeme Smith says the new tag of World No. 1 team will not distract his side from the immediate and important goal of winning the World Cup to be played in the Caribbean from March 13.

``We are pleased with our achievement but we will not allow this to detract us from our preparations for the World Cup,'' Smith said.

``Winning the World Cup is our main goal at this stage,'' he said.

South Africa found itself elevated to the top of the ODI charts after Australia lost its long held coveted status after its fourth consecutive loss, which came against New Zealand at Auckland on Sunday.

Smith and his teammates will embark on a series of coaching clinics around the country this week prior to leaving for the showpiece event in the Caribbean. — PTI
