SSOS (Sankari) clinches title

Erode: S. Mohana Sundaram struck in the 52nd minute to help SSOS (Sankari) score a 1-0 win over United Sports Club (Nilgiris) in the final of the SDAT-TNHA Champion Cup (regional level) hockey tournament at the VOC Stadium here on Tuesday.

The results (final): SSOS Sankari (Namakkal) 1 (S. Mohana Sundaram) bt United Sports Club (Nilgiris) 0.

Third place: Nandha Arts and Science College (Erode) 1 (K. Saravanan) bt Rudrappa Nagar, Hockey Club (Udumalpet) 0.

St. Joseph's scrapes through

St. Joseph's College edged out Jamal Mohammed College 1-0 in a Tiruchi DFA super division football league encounter in Tiruchi on Tuesday.

Ruban scored the winner just before the break.

Jamal strikers tried their best to equalise in the second half but failed to do so, thanks to some good work by St. Joseph's goalkeeper Manoj Kumar.

Al-Ameen posts win

Al-Ameen College (Bangalore) defeated host Jamal Mohammed College 51-42 in a league match of the 10th South Zone inter-collegiate basketball tournament for the Krishnaswamy Naidu memorial trophy in Tiruchi on Tuesday.

After racing to a 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, Jamal lost its way completely, scoring only two points in the second quarter.

Al-Ameen took full advantage of the erratic performance of Jamal to come back into the match.

The results:

Al-Ameen 51 (Sunil 10, Sheshi 10) bt Jamal Mohammed 42 (Praveen Anand 10, Meyyan 10); Pavendar Bharthidasan 39 (Ram Kumar 10) bt Bishop Heber 21 (Dinesh Babu 10).

Big win for Joe Joe

Krishna Kumar netted four goals as Joe Joe HC blanked Rock Fort HC 14-0 in a Tiruchi DHA super league hockey match in Tiruchi on Tuesday.

Ramesh scored a hat trick, while Arockiyaselvam, Gopi, Mohan netted a brace each. Ilayaraja completed the tally.

Joe Joe defeated Cholas 2-1 in its other super league encounter and leads the table with two wins.
