Warriors pips Sultans

Chandigarh: A brilliant performance under the bar by Devesh Chauhan and an inspired show by Hyderabad Sultans went in vain as Maratha Warriors, which was held 2-2 even after the 15-minute extra-time, won 5-3 in the tiebreaker in their Premier Hockey League encounter here on Monday night.

First Shivender (28th minute) and then Hardeep (46th) put the Warriors ahead. But on both occasions the Sultans scored the equalisers. The first one was scored by Didar Singh off a short corner, while Shakeel Abassi scored the second.

In the tiebreaker, Shivender Singh, Jamie Dwyer and Gaurav Tokhi scored for Maratha Warriors, while Sandeep Antil fumbled. For Hyderabad Sultans Sardara Singh shot over the bar, Rajwinder Singh sent it wide and Lazarus Barla's ball went out of play. Only Tariq Aziz scored.

Warriors's fifth player, Gaurav Tokhi managed to beat Chauhan and gained victory for his team. — PTI
