CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will flag off the Chennai Central-Hazrat Nizamuddin Garib Rath here on Wednesday. The inaugural special will leave Central at 10.45 a.m. (Wednesday) and reach Nizamuddin at 4 p.m. the next day. Regular services will begin on March 3 from Central and February 26 from Nizamuddin. The service will leave Central at 6.10 a.m. on all Saturdays and reach Nizamuddin at 10.15 a.m. the next day. In the return direction, it will leave Nizamuddin at 4 p.m. on all Mondays and reach Central at 8.10 p.m. the next day. It will have 12 three-tier AC coaches and four AC chair cars.
Journey time
The journey time of Garib Rath will be on a par with that of the Rajdhani Express and less than the Tamil Nadu and Grant Trunk Expresses. The fare will be less compared to other services, according to a Southern Railway release.
Special train to
Chhapra
To clear the extra rush of passengers, a special train will run from Chennai Central to Chhapra on February 22 (Thursday). It will leave Central at 5.30 p.m. on February 22 and reach Chhapra at 12 noon on February 24 (Saturday). It will have 10 sleeper class, 3 general second class and 2 luggage-cum-brake van coaches. Advance reservations for the above train will commence on Wednesday, according to a railway release.
