Landowners told to give consent letters

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Owners of land to be acquired for laying a four-lane road from Kalamassery to the proposed International Container Transhipment Terminal at Vallarpadam should give before February 28 letters of consent for handing over their property.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting on land acquisitions held at the Collectorate in Kakkanad on Tuesday.

In case the letters are not given before the deadline, the land will be acquired under the land acquisition Act, District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish said.

There are 570 landowners involved. Of this, 300 had given the letters.

The Cochin Port Trust has written to the District Collector informing him that the work on the road and paying compensation for the land are the responsibilities of the National Highways' Authority of India.

The trust had handed over Rs. 20 crore to the district administration for the work. The authority is supposed to return the money later.
