HYDERABAD: The Congress is understood to have cleared the names of six more candidates for the Local Authorities Constituency for the ensuing Legislative Council elections. Though the official list was not announced, the party is said to have decided to nominate the following for the six seats: P. Balaraju (Visakhapatnam), V. Varada Rama Rao (Vizianagaram), Reddappa Reddy (Chittoor), Putha Narasimha Reddy (Kadapa), Nethi Vidyasagar (Nalgonda) and K.V. Rajeshwar Rao (Karimnagar). The party is likely to choose between former MLA P. Kista Reddy and ex-DCC president Bhoopal Reddy for Medak seat. Following the refusal of Mr. Palvai Goverdhan Reddy to contest the Local Authorities Constituency from Nalgonda, the party nominated Mr. Vidyasagar. Mr. Balaraju is a former MLA from Chintapalli in Visakhapatnam district, who contested the last Assembly elections as party rebel. He was suspended from the party but was subsequently taken back into the party fold. Mr. Narasimha Reddy unsuccessfully contested Assembly elections from Kamalapuram constituency in Kadapa district.
The Congress leadership had earlier decided to leave Medak and Karimnagar seats to the TRS but has apparently revised its decision following the statement of TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao that there was no alliance between the two.
Ten names released
Meanwhile, the TDP Polit Bureau, which met here, cleared the names of ten candidates in as many districts. Party general secretary Kadiam Srihari told The Hindu that the names were approved after elaborate three-hour long meeting of the Polit Bureau presided over by the party president N. Chandrababu Naidu. This is the second time the party met in two days to discuss the issue, the first round having been held on Monday. The names released had a former Minister Dadi Veerabhadra Rao from Visakhapatnam, a former party Whip, Palle Raghunatha Reddy from Anantapur and Y. B. Rajendra Prasad, president of Andhra Pradesh MPTCs Association and honorary president of sarpanches association from Krishna. Other candidates are Rajasimhulu alias Dora Babu (Chittoor), Chinna Rajappa (East Godavari), Laxminarayana (West Godavari), Rajnarayan Yadav (Guntur), Ch. Sudhakara Rao (Karimnagar), Ch. Suresh Reddy (Warangal) and Arigella Nageshwara Rao (Adilabad). Khammam continues to pose a problem and the candidate for the same is expected to be cleared on Wednesday.
