KOLLAM: Industries Minister Elamaram Karim has said that out of the 57 State Government undertakings, 22 are making profit now. Inaugurating the valedictory function of the Productivity Week organised by the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC) here on Tuesday, he said last year only 12 companies registered profits. It was because of the positive policy of the Left Democratic Front Government towards the public sector companies that more such companies had started making profits, he claimed. The Minister said the Government made an allocation of Rs.3.5 crore to Kerala Electricals Limited, Kundra; and Rs.2 crore to the United Electrical Industries Limited, Kollam, as working capital. The amount sought by the KSCDC for improving performance would be allocated in the next budget, he said. The Minister urged trade unions to be more responsible. Trade unions should not make workers demand for more wages without performing. The policy should be more wage for more work. Management and workers should coordinate to improve productivity. The workers and management should be aware of the fact that only quality goods would sell, he said. Though the Government was promoting the IT sector, the traditional industry sector was more important to the Government, he added. KSCDC Chairman E. Kazim presided and managing director K.A. Ratheesh welcomed the gathering.
