Jnanappana award for Akkitham

THRISSUR: Poet Akkitham has been selected for the Jnanappana Award, instituted by the Guruvayur Devaswom. The award, carrying a purse of Rs.10,000, citation and statuette, was decided by a committee comprising M. Leelavathy, K.P. Sankaran and Puthur Unnikrishnan. The award will be presented at a function at Guruvayur on Thursday. — Staff Reporter

Body found

THRISSUR: The body of a man was found on a railway track in the Chalakudy police station limits on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Ainikkadan Sivaraman, 45, of V.R. Puram in Perambra. The police said Sivaraman was walking on the railway track and was run over by the train. The police have registered a case. The body was handed over to relatives after a post-mortem. — Staff Reporter

`Keep away from campaign'

KOCHI: The State committee of the Youth Front (Secular) has urged the Kerala Congress (Secular) leadership to keep away from the proposed LDF campaign to highlight the Government's achievements. The Youth Front (Secular) president M.N. Giri and general secretary A.A.V. Kennedy said the LDF rule was marked by more failures than achievements. — Staff Reporter

`Orma perunal'

KOLLAM: The 315th `orma perunal' of Mar Anthraos Bava will be held at West Kallada Saint Mary's Orthodox Syrian Church from February 27 to March 4. The festival is in honour of the Bava who passed away in 1692 and whose mortal remains are buried in the church. The festival will comprise the annual convention too. The convention will be inaugurated by Metropolitan Mathews Mar Epiphaneos on February 27. The traditional procession (raasa) will be held at 4 p.m. on March 2 and 3. The procession will be up to the Kadapuzha junction from the church.

Symposium

KOLLAM: Bhavah 07, the national-level technical symposium, being organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of the T.K.M. College of Engineering will be from February 23. Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan will inaugurate the symposium. On the occasion Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kerala V. FETO call for strike

KOLLAM: M.S. Shyam Kumar, State president of the Kerala NGO Sangh, has called upon the State employees and teachers to get ready for a strike in order to earn the justified benefits from the Government. Inaugurating a jatha of the Federation of Employees and Teachers Organisations (FETO) in Kollam in support of a strike, Mr. Kumar said that even after nine months of rule, the LDF Government has failed to allocate the 15 per cent DA or rectify the anomalies of the Pay Commission Report. - Staff Reporter
