BANGALORE: Minister for Industries Katta Subramanya Naidu told the Legislative Council on Tuesday that the State Government would take up with the Centre the need for public sector undertakings to employ Kannadigas. He was replying to a call attention notice moved by `Mukhyamantri' Chandru and others on the implementation of the Sarojini Mahishi Committee report on employment opportunities for Kannadigas. Mr. Naidu said Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) had filled 600 posts (540 Kannadigas) in 2004 and 840 posts (835 Kannadigas) in 2005. Thirty-two Kannadigas were chosen for 41 posts filled after July 2006, according to an official note furnished by HAL to the Government, Mr. Naidu said.
Details questioned
Disputing the details provided by HAL, Mr. Chandru and others said the company had provided only the list of daily wage employees to the Government. It had actually filled 2,400 posts, over 95 per cent them with candidates from the northern States. HAL officials had attempted to mislead the Government, they said. The Sarojini Mahishi Committee had recommended that 65 per cent of posts in group A, 80 per cent in group B and all group C and D posts should be earmarked for Kannadigas. The Government should ascertain whether the recruitments complied with the recommendations. Many members complained that Bharat Earth Movers Ltd., Kolar, was recruiting non-Kannadigas in violation of the Sarojini Mahishi report.
Support price
The Government had submitted a representation to the Centre urging it to increase the support price for red gram (toor dal), Minister for Agricultural Marketing Sharanabasappa Darshanapur told the House. Replying to questions from Shashil G. Namoshi, Aravind Limbavali and others, he said the Centre had fixed the support price for a quintal of red gram at Rs. 1,410 (grade one) and Rs. 1,380 (grade two). But the State Government had fixed the support price at Rs. 1,800 and Rs. 1,720 respectively. The Government had decided to purchase one lakh quintals of the commodity and opened 19 outlets in Gulbarga and six in Bidar for the purpose.
