ANANTAPUR: The Rural Water Supply (RWS) Department will soon take up a crash programme of visiting all sources and system of drinking water supply in villages to list out the problems and suggest preventive steps to minimise them in the ensuing summer. Mobile teams, including junior engineers of the department and pump mechanics, will inspect all handpumps and protected water supply schemes being maintained by the gram panchayats concerned and also the comprehensive protected water supply schemes maintained by the department itself, officials of the RWS said on Tuesday. The mobile teams would assess the problems likely to be encountered during the peak summer from March 15 to June 15 and list out the requirements. They would also take up annual maintenance of the PWS schemes and handpumps with the gram panchayats concerned providing spare parts and other required material. The department had not received drought funds it usually got during the period. It was not in a position to bear any expenditure on its own until funds were released, the official sources stated.
