Karnataka Rajya Samgar Haralayya Samaj Vedike stages protest

  • The activists shouted slogans against the district administration
  • List of grievances included in Memorandum to Deputy Commissioner

SEEKING ATTENTION: Activists of Karnataka Rajya Samgar Haralayya Samaj Vedike shouting slogans, against the district administration, in front of the Deputy Commisioner's office in Belgaum on Tuesday.

BELGAUM: Activists of Karnataka Rajya Samgar Haralayya Samaj Vedike criticised the district administration for allegedly neglecting the exploitation of sugarcane growers and concerns of Dalits in the city and other parts of the district in a protest held here on Tuesday.

The activists shouted loudly drawing attention of people over the alleged failure of the district administration to respond to some of the burning issues in the district. The protest was reminiscent of those launched by late Kalyanrao Molkheri, who represented Bhalki Assembly Constituency in Bidar district during the Ramakrishna Hegde and S.R. Bommai regime.

    Against corruption

He had formed the "Bom Maaro Sanghatan" to fight against corruption and lead the young activists to protest in front of government offices/departments where people had complaints of corruption and harassment.

Later, in a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Kittur pointed out that the latter had not taken any action on its demand to recommend a CoD inquiry into the cheating of sugarcane growers with tampered weighing machines allegedly at Hira Sugars in Sankeshwar.

The other grievances of the vedike included failure of the administration to allot alternative sites to people belonging to Scheduled Castes who have lost their properties under the master plan in Kaktives, distribution of only 27 sites for installation of Khokas for cobblers as against the promised 32 sites, failure to take action against Dynadeepa Welfare Education Society for its alleged misuse of 18 per cent funds allotted by Belgaum City Corporation, failure to order probe into corruption and misuse of 18 per cent funds in the corporation from 2001 to 2006 and other developmental issues.

Mr. Kittur said Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh, who is also the Administrator of the corporation, had promised to take action on their demands and memorandums submitted in the recent past.
