JD(U) withdraws plans for dharna

Staff Correspondent

GULBARGA: The Janata Dal (United) has withdrawn its plans to stage a dharna demanding a probe into the alleged irregularities in the working of the Gulbarga City Corporation (GCC), after the State Government promised to look into the issue. Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey has also promised to probe the allegations made.

Allegation

Speaking to presspersons in Gulbarga on Tuesday, JD(U) leader Raju Kulgeri repeated the party's allegation that while the GCC claimed to have utilised Rs 5.25 crore on the construction of roads and footpaths, it had spent only Rs. 3.25 crore. He demanded to know where this money had gone.

He said the JD(U) would withdraw the dharna for the time being, to give the Deputy Commissioner some time to conduct an inquiry on the issue. He demanded, however, that the GCC Commissioner be sent on leave until the inquiry was completed.
