Srinagar to get a second flyover

Srinagar: A second flyover is being built on the Hyderpora bypass to ease traffic congestion in this city.

The one km-long flyover would be coming up at a cost of Rs 35 crore while another Rs 47.32 crore was being spent on widening the 6-lane Batmaloo-Qamarwari and 4-lane Qamarwari- Dareesh Kadal roads, Divisional Commissioner Basharat Ahmed said on Tuesday.

The first flyover came up in the city in July 2004.

Haryana signs pact

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) on Tuesday signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with seven independent power producers (IPPs) in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan to generate 686 MW of power through 21 biomass power projects and four wind energy-based power projects at a total cost of Rs. 3,300 crores.

Doctors on strike

Patna: Junior doctors on Tuesday went on an indefinite strike paralysing the emergency and out patients' deppartment of the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital here.

Over 80 junior doctors proceeded on strike from Tuesday to protest against non-payment of their stipends for the past five months, NMCH superintendent Santosh Kumar said.

The emergency and OPD services were badly hit due to the strike, he said.

Statue unveiled

Bhadohi: A statue of `bandit queen' Phoolan Devi was unveiled at the Pakri crossing here on Tuesday.

U.P. Urban Development Minister Azam Khan, who unveiled the statue, termed the late dacoit-turned Samajwadi Party MP as a "rebel who raised arms to oppose oppression and injustice".

Passengers robbed

Kanpur: Seventeen train passengers were robbed by members of a gang who offered them biscuits laced with an intoxicating substance, railway officials said here on Tuesday.

The victims were brought in an unconscious state to Kanpur Central railway station and admitted in hospital on Monday night, they said.

They said nine of the passengers were travelling on the Gwalior-Barauni Express, five on Farraka Express, two on Sampark Kranti Express and one on the Jhansi passenger train.
