Rival groups hurl bombs at each other

BERHAMPUR: Ten persons were injured in a political group clash at Phulta village under the Sadar police station on Tuesday.

Both groups hurled bombs at each other. Four of the injured persons were taken to the MKCG medical college hospital. The clash followed the voting for panchayat polls held at the village on Monday.

The clash began when a group from the Bauri street reached the main street of the village and started hurling crude bombs at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Flag march

Situation was so violent that even the police team could not enter the village till noon as a group had also blocked the entrance of the village.

No one was arrested in connection with the clash.

According to Berhampur Superintendent of Police, Dayal Gangwar, three platoons of armed police force staged a flag march inside the village. These troops are still deployed at the village under a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

The police also staged a flag march at the village on Sunday night before polling on Monday. The police seized two live bombs from the village. On Tuesday five more bombs were seized.

Violent group clashes are common at this village. During last five months five major clashes occurred. Tuesday's clash resulted after the villagers received information from unconfirmed sources that former Congress-supported sarpanch of the village had got defeated.
