POET'S ADVICE: Poet Bidarahalli Narasimhamurthy inaugurating the inter-collegiate poets' meet in Shimoga on Tuesday.
SHIMOGA: Noted Kannada poet Bidarahalli Narasimhamurthy suggested to young and budding poets here on Tuesday to select a particular subject for their poetic pursuits instead of being carried away by revolutionary ideas.
Inauguration
Inaugurating the inter-collegiate poets' meet organised by DVS Arts and Science College he cautioned young poets that they might be labelled as "naxalites" if they focussed too much on revolutionary themes for their poems. Regretting that most of the movements were prompted by political ambitions Mr. Narasimhamurthy said the number of the leaders of such movements was increasing. He said internal revolution was more important than external revolution. Poetry should originate in isolation before it reached the readers, he said. He asked the young poets to write poems for self-inspiration and not for any external pressure. He said poetry should be based on creativity, self-appraisal and influence of major popular movements.
Chief guests
Principal of the college C.S. Nanjundaiah presided over the function. Former principal of the Acharya Tulsi National Commerce College M.B. Nataraj, Satyanarayan and A.S. Vatsala were the chief guests. Students of local colleges participated in the meet, which was organised by the Kannada Sahitya Vedike of the college.
