`Traders violating norms face prosecution'

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Civil Supplies Department, as a step to control rise in prices in the open market, has been conducting raids on wholesale and retail shops in the city.

It has so far seized Rs. 29.18 lakh worth essential commodities, according to Collector (district civil supplies) and Joint Collector Sandeep Kumar Sultania. The volume of commodities seized was 794.75 quintals (79,475 kg).

The following are the details of the commodities seized: Pantaloon Food Products, MVP Colony (33.90 quintals, Rs. 1,43,662), Big Bazaar (19.62, Rs. 99,371), Om Sai Lakshmi Traders, Maddilapalem (114, Rs. 3,76,050), Spencer's Retail Limited (56.05, Rs. 3,14,339), Trinetra Super Market, Mindi (34.99, Rs. 2,01,012), Shahil Trading, Poorna Market (517.70, Rs. 16, 94,900), Meghana Hyper Market, Gopalapatnam (11.76, Rs. 62,536) and Sri Venkata Ramana Trading Company, Gajuwaka (6.73, Rs. 26,715).

The Civil Supplies Department requested consumers to bring to its notice cases of hoarding.

The Collector warned that those indulging in trading without proper licence or hoarding the commodities in shops or godowns would be prosecuted. He appealed to people to provide any information on hoarding to the Assistant Supply Officers - 9848779862 (Circle 1), 9848779861 (Circle 2), 9848779863 (Circle 3), District Supply Officers - Urban 9848779833, rural 9848779803.
