HYDERABAD: Reiterating his Government's commitment to providing reservations to Muslims in education and employment, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has said that the Government has initiated several steps to ensure the implementation of five per cent quota to Muslims from the next academic year. Though the Government announced reservations to Muslims, the implementation of the process was delayed because the Opposition parties approached courts, he said. The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurated Mushaira Shaam-e-Nagma seminar here on Tuesday. He asserted that the Government was committed to the welfare of the minorities and it was reflected from the allocations made to the department for the next financial year. The allocation, in tune with the Government's assurance, had been significantly enhanced to Rs. 123 crores for the next financial year of which Rs. 68 crores would be spent on scholarships to eligible students. Official Language Commission Chairman A.B.K. Prasad, member-convenor Jeelani Pairak and others also spoke.
