Foundation stone laid at city varsity

HYDERABAD: Chairman of Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council C. Rangarajan on Tuesday laid foundation stone for the C.R. Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (AIMSCS), at University of Hyderabad.

To come up on a five-acre site, the Institute will have an initial floor-area of 1.25 lakh sq. ft. and will specialise in basic research in the fields of maths, statistics and computer science. The State Government has provided an aid of Rs.50 lakhs and the institute hopes to raise a corpus fund of Rs.50 crores.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rangarajan, who is also the AIMCS Governing Council Chairman, outlined the broad contours of the institute and said it would work towards creating new knowledge. He also appreciated the contribution of Prof. C.R. Rao to the subjects that the institute plans to work on.
