ABVP activists storm RGUHS, lock VC's office

Government urged to sack officials found guilty

BANGALORE: Demanding the immediate resignation of the Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, a group of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) activists stormed the university and locked the VC's office on Tuesday morning.

The police forcibly evicted the activists after a verbal duel, by which time the Vice-Chancellor's name board was removed.

Shouting slogans, the activists were angry that the VC and six other officials, reportedly indicted by the CBI in a scandal related to last year's Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET), continued to hold their posts. They submitted a memorandum to the Registrar and dispersed.

The ABVP demanded that the Government make public the CBI report and remove officials found guilty. A candidate who only scored average marks in the MBBS examination had topped the PGCET while two sisters were among the top 15, an ABVP office-bearer said. The ABVP wanted the Cabinet to permit CBI to initiate action against the Vice-Chancellor.
