BBMP employees call off strike

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Following an assurance by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner K. Jairaj that their demand for promotion of eligible candidates would be considered, BBMP employees called off their strike on Tuesday.

BBMP employees under the banner of BMP Noukarara Kendriya Sangha launched an indefinite strike on Monday protesting against the civic body's move of direct recruitment of officials in the additional five zones created under BBMP.

Demanding promotion of eligible candidates, the employees were opposing the decision to hire people on contract.

Following the intervention of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Mr. Jairaj had temporarily put on hold the direct recruitment process.

On Tuesday, Mr. Jariaj held a meeting with the office-bearers of the sangha to discuss their demands.

He reportedly assured them that eligible candidates would be promoted as per the Cadre and Recruitment rules.
