PUDUCHERRY: For experts of digital coding, scrambling, encoding, C-Band and S-Band, putting together equipment for a Direct-to-Home (DTH) decoder must be child's play. And it was so for students of the Women's Polytechnic College, who made it part of their project last year. This year, the next batch of students pursuing Electronics and Communication Engineering enriched their knowledge about the subject from S. Elangovan, Assistant Engineer, Doordarshan Relay Centre, Villupuram. The 85 students, who attended a seminar on "modern trends in television broadcasting", listened keenly as Mr. Elangovan spoke about concepts like DTH, digital transmission, live telecasting methods and different frequencies. After the session, the students had questions on various topics including the concept of how pay channels were able to supply their signals selectively to customers or cable operators who paid their fee. Principal (in-charge) G. Rani was also present . Campus interviews are also being held at the college. Companies like Integra, SureSoft, Numerical Power Systems and Monobreak are looking out for suitable candidates. The companies have already selected a few students for placement. An architecture firm has also selected some students.
