Corrections and Clarifications

A report "Down's syndrome clinic opened [at the Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital, Chennai]" (Chennai city edition, February 18, 2007, page 2) stated that "foetus examination and genetic counselling can help prevent other birth defects as they reduce the risks of abnormal conditions or malformation for expecting parents", which a reader said was misleading. Our Chennai Bureau clarifies that foetal examination can only prevent births with defects, and genetic counselling will have to be done before conception.
