Water to be released into Tungabhadra canal

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Water Resources Minister K.S. Eshwarappa on Wednesday said he would order the release of water from the Bhadra dam to the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal to protect standing crops in Raichur and Koppal districts.

Fear of crop loss

Replying to the matter raised by N.S. Boseraju, Hampanagouda Badarli, T. Bhagirathi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Siddaramaiah in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister said water release to the left bank canal was dependent on the requirement of water for the Bhadra reservoir achcut area. Mr. Badarli and Mr. Boseraju said crops worth over Rs. 300 crore would wither if water was not released.
