Belgaum: The State Government proposes to establish a University for Ayurvedic Medical Sciences in Belgaum. Official sources said here on Wednesday that the Government had asked the district administration to identify 400 acres of land within the radius of 20 km from the city for establishment of the university. The proposed university would be the first in south India and second in the country. Belgaum had been considered to be ideal for the establishment of the university in the light of more than 200 species of medicinal plants available in the ranges of the Western Ghats forming part of the district. Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh had held a meeting of the officials concerned on identifying land for the proposed university.
