Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The University School of Basic and Applied Sciences (USBAS) of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University here is collaborating with the Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica of Taiwan to initiate a student and faculty exchange programme between the two institutions beginning this June.

At present the tenure of this exchange programme is three years but it is likely to get extended in the near future, according to USBAS Dean Avinash C. Sharma.

Two students of M. Tech (Engineering Physics) -- a multidisciplinary programme that was introduced during the past academic session by the University -- will visit the Taipei-based institute during their second year and complete the fourth semester of their course there.

The focus areas of the programme are nano-science technology, alternative sources of energy like solar energy and nuclear energy, visualisation technology and plasma technology.

The first batch of students will leave in June-July this year. "We will be sending our students during their vacations after the second semester. They will remain there for about 45 days, thenagain during the fourth semester and do their project there," said Prof. Sharma. In addition, two faculty members will also visit the Institute in July.
