Manipal varsity to start school of design

Manipal: Registrar of Manipal University H. Vinod Bhat said on Thursday that Manipal University was planning to start the Manipal School of Design by August 2007.

Dr. Bhat said that the university was looking for partners to start the school. It was also planning to start nursing colleges in Mangalore and Bangalore this year, he said.

Vice-President (Projects) of Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd., Konduri Lakshminarayana, said there had been rapid advances in the field of design engineering. Many new products had entered the market. It was necessary to give more importance to innovation, he said. Giving an overview of the conference, organising secretary of RADE, Raviraja, said in the present era of globalisation, competitive products required key ingredients such as quality and reliability. To achieve this, it was necessary to develop and use innovative ideas, materials, and automated tools/techniques in designs.
