Letters to the Editor
By announcing the election schedule for Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission has indeed offered a face-saver to all those involved in the crisis in the State. As pointed out in the article "A way out of the logjam" (Feb. 22), the announcement has saved the President the possible embarrassment of turning down the recommendation to impose President's Rule in U.P., and the Congress the chances of committing a political folly.
The move has put an end to the unethical goings-on in the State. Besides forestalling horse-trading, it has taken the wind out of the Congress' sails. The Commission has averted the sting of Article 356 by its timely and wise action.
