Chandigarh: Pakistani goalkeeper Salman Akbar's brilliant effort helped Orissa Steelers beat Sher-e-Jalandhar 3-1 in the shoot-out in a Premier Hockey League match here on Wednesday night. Akbar saved three goals in the shoot-out as Steelers salvaged two points and maintained its lead in the PHL. The teams were locked 1-1 after the regulation time and 15-minute extra-time. Argentine star Mario Alamada put the Orissa team ahead in the 6th minute. Shers struck the equaliser in the 51st. Jarnail Singh got a cross from the right, moved into the circle and from a narrow angle affected a powerful reverse flick into the goalmouth. Shers had a golden chance of bagging all the three points at the fag end but Tejbir Singh shot wide. In the shoot-out, Steelers scored thrice while Shers managed only one. Dilip Tirkey, Birendra Lakra and Damandeep Singh scored for Steelers while Prabodh Tirkey missed. For Shers, only Santi Freixa scored. Baljit Dhillon, Tejbir Singh and Gurvinder Singh's attempts were brilliantly saved by Akbar. PTI
