LONDON: Jermaine Jenas scored with a minute remaining as Tottenham Hotspur beat Everton 2-1 on Wednesday for only its second victory away from home this season in the English Premier League. Watford missed a chance of escaping last place when it surrendered a first-half lead against 10-man Wigan and was held 1-1 at home. Dimitar Berbatov gave visiting Spurs a 35th-minute lead at Goodison Park when Aaron Lennon burst down the right and crossed for the Bulgarian to score with a half-volley. Mikel Arteta equalised with a 25m free kick three minutes before half-time. Jenas scored the winner in the 89th when he took a pass from Steed Malbranque and hit a low shot into the bottom corner of the net. The victory moved Spurs up one place to 10th. Wigan was reduced to 10 men in the 20th minute when Fitz Hall was sent off for a two-footed foul on Johann Cavalli. Four minutes later, Watford capitalised when Jordan Stewart's pass found Darius Henderson almost on the line and the striker forced the ball home. Wigan equalised five minutes before halftime when Caleb Folan punished Jay DeMerit's weak back header and ran clear to shoot past Ben Foster. The results: Everton 1 (Mikel Arteta) lost to Tottenham Hotspur 2 (Dimitar Berbatov, Jermaine Jenas); Watford 1 (Darius Henderson) drew with Wigan Athletic 1 (Caleb Folan). AP
