Cases to be withdrawn

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The State Cabinet on Thursday decided to withdraw cases booked against those protesting against the prayer meeting of the U.S.-based television evangelist Benny Hinn in Bangalore in 2005.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led protests turned violent and several buses were stoned. The police booked 31 cases against those responsible for the violence.

The Cabinet also decided to withdraw 55 cases booked against nearly 1,000 farmers of Haliyal when they were protesting against the delay in settling crop insurance claims. It also decided to withdraw cases booked against some students of Dharwad University in connection with their protest against alleged sexual harassment by a professor, Naregal.

Cases booked against party workers of the Janata Dal (S) and the Congress of Dyavalapura in Nagamangala taluk for poll-related clashes will also be withdrawn.
