Meetings planned with depositors
According to a press release here, a meeting of depositors of Alwarpet Benefit Fund will be held on February 27. The personnel will meet depositors of the Anubhav Group of companies on March 1, Devi Gold House the next day and RBF on March 7. The meeting will be held at the Crime Branch office at Admiralty House, Government Estate (near MLA hostel). Depositors who had lodged a complaint have been requested to attend the meeting. Archana Ramasundaram, ADGP; Vijay Kumar, IG, EOW-2 and M. Sathiyapriya, SP will explain the progress of the cases. The EOW was formed in 1999 following an order of the Madras High Court to investigate mega scams in financial companies. BJP questions PMK's credentials
G. Kumaravelu, vice-president of the State unit, said it was the decision of the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre that enabled big players to enter retail trade. "When the PMK is a party to the decision, how can it oppose the move now? Will the PMK come out of the alliance on this issue if its demand is not met?" he asked. Special Correspondent
Lottery tickets seized, 259 held
Sale of lottery tickets is banned in Tamil Nadu. Following information that lottery tickets of other States were being sold, the police launched a search in all districts. As many as 259 persons, who were selling lottery tickets of other States, were arrested and 29,670 tickets and Rs.12,788 in sale proceeds seized, Director-General of Police D. Mukherjee said in a press release. Stringent action would be taken against the arrested persons and also those who assisted them, he said. Special Correspondent
Free vocational training programme
Candidates will be selected through walk-in interview on February 26 (Monday) at 10 am at IILP, 163 Thiruneermalai Road, Parvathipuram, Chromepet, Chennai -4. According to police sources, Selvam was riding a motorcycle towards Musiri when a lorry carrying blue metal collided head on with his vehicle. Selvam who was injured the collision, succumbed to his injuries at the Government Hospital here.

Former Minister appears in court
Sources said cadres of the AIADMK and the DMK clashed with each other during the local body election at Manakudi near here recently. Cases were registered against Natarajan and 25 others in this connection. Though they had obtained anticipatory bail in the case, they appeared before the court as per a direction.

cheating charge
Sources said Thamim Ansari (37) of Tiruchi allegedly received Rs.1.78 lakh from one Sukumaran of Sikil Raja Street here for appointing the latter as a dealer for his company. However, Mr. Ansari reportedly failed to comply with the terms and conditions. Based on Sukumaran's complaint, Thamim Ansari and his company manager Maharajan were arrested.

Held for selling lottery tickets
A total of 421 tickets were seized from them. While Dharmaraj (36) and T. Vellaipandi (51) were arrested from Sawyerpuram, Shanmugavel and Veerasamy (56) were arrested from Vilathikulam. Natarajan (35) was arrested at Ettayapuram and Sankaralingam (52) and Ganesha Moorthy (34) were arrested in the town.
