CPI(M) nominee to head Devaswom

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A nominee of the CPI(M) will get to head the Guruvayur Devaswom.

The State committee of the ruling LDF, which met here on Thursday, decided to leave the chairmanship of the Guruvayur Devaswom to the CPI(M). The Front leader would also get to nominate one of the four members of the Devaswom Board. The CPI and the Janata Dal (Secular) would share the remaining two positions in the Board. The CPI(M) would also get two out of the six vacancies in the Public Service Commission (PSC). The CPI, RSP, Janata Dal (Secular) and the Kerala Congress (Joseph) would get the remaining positions. — Special Correspondent

Takes charge as

AIR Director

Thiruvananthapuram: K.A. Muralidharan has taken charge as Director of All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram. Mr. Muralidharan who entered service as Programme Executive, AIR, Kozhikode, in 1980 has served as Director in the Devikulam, Thrissur and Mangalore stations of AIR. Prior to his present posting he was Director of AIR's training institute. A poet, writer and media critic, Mr. Muralidharan hails from Kunnam in Mavelikara. He is a winner of the Sangeetha Nataka Adademi's award for broadcasting in 2005. The documentary titled `Madhyavenal Avadhikalam Madhuram, Madhuram' had won him the State Government's award. — Special Correspondent

PF adalat on March 12

Thiruvananthapuram: A `Bhavishyanidhi' adalat is being conducted for the people of Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta districts in the PF Office at Pattom here on March 12. The complaints to be considered at the adalat should reach the PRO, Bhavishyanidhi Bhavan, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram before March 2. The complaints should have the PF account number and pension payment order number.

The Regional PF Commissioner will hear the complaints and take steps to redress them. — Special Correspondent

Government directive on dialysis

Thiruvananthapuram: Dialysis has been included in the medical treatment covered by the Society for Medical Assistance to the Poor Scheme. The Government has issued orders to this effect. The three hospitals brought under the scheme are Malabar Cancer Centre, Thalassery, SAT, Thiruvananthapuram, and the Institute of Maternal and Child Health, Kozhikode.

The Minister for Health is the chairperson of the society set up to provide assistance to the medical treatment of poor patients. — Special Correspondent

SBT opens 700th branch

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Bank of Travancore opened its 700th branch at Oyur in Kollam district on Thursday. Pradeep Shankar, Chief General Manager, who inaugurated the branch, also handed over the first Savings Bank Pass Book. - Staff Reporter

10 counters for pattaya mela

THRISSUR: Ten counters will be set up for distribution of title deeds and possession certificates at a pattaya mela to be held here on Sunday. About 100 Government employees will man the counters. Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran will inaugurate the pattaya mela at 10.30 a.m., according to an official press release here. — Staff Reporter

THRISSUR: The Catholic Syrian Bank (CSB) has revised rates of interest on domestic term deposits. The revised rates are 7.25 per cent (100 days), 9.25 per cent (between one and three years), 9.50 per cent (three to five years), 8.60 per cent (five to 10 years), according to a press release. — Staff Reporter

KOTTAYAM: The award for the best public relations professional instituted by Indian Public Relations Foundation of India has been awarded to G. Sreekumar, PRO, at Mahatma Gandhi University. The award which carries a citation, golden memento and a cash component of Rs.10,001 will be presented on the occasion of the national conference of university public relations teachers and PROs scheduled here in April. — Staff Reporter
