Court pulls up former Minister

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday pulled up the former Minister for Health and Family Welfare K.K. Ramachandran for making adverse remarks against the Lok Ayukta for entertaining a complaint against him.

Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishan, while dismissing a petition filed by Mr. Ramachandran, said that the pleading against the Lok Ayukta order was trash and bland statement, which he should not have made. In his petition, he challenged the Lok Ayukta's order dismissing his petition against the acceptance of a complaint filed by K. Jyothilal, president, All Kerala Government Ayurveda College Teachers Organi- sation. The court said that while making pleadings in the writ petition it should be ensured that there is no slur in the slightest form on such a high office.

The court also held that as per the rules, there was no bar for the Lok Ayukta to entertain any complaint. The former Minister contended that the complaint admitted by the Lok Ayukta against him was filed without obtaining permission from the head of the department.

Directive on quota

A Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Justice M.N. Krishnan on Thursday directed the State Government and the Director of Medical Education to fill the seats surrendered from the all-India quota in the MBBS course in the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College from the State merit list strictly in accordance with the rank list.

Court complex

In another petition, the court directed the Joint Secretary, Home Department, to file a proper affidavit regarding the funding of a court complex at Kalpetta. The Bench expressed its displeasure over the statement filed by the Joint Secretary saying that the High Court Registrar had to find out funds for constructing the complex.
