Poll work: Collectors told not to engage teachers

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: District Collectors have been asked not to engage teachers, both government and private, for any form of election work relating to the State Legislative Council, in view of the different examinations in offing for students and the need to complete their syllabus.

Chief Electoral Officer V. Bhaskar addressed letters to them at the instance of the Election Commission. Teachers now remain barred not only from acting as election agents but also being appointed as presiding officers and supervisors.

Teachers' organisations have protested against the decision.
