CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday asked the Election Commission to conduct polls in the Beas Assembly constituency before February 27, the day of counting of votes for the other 116 seats polling for which has already taken place. A division bench of Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rajive Bhalla also directed the Centre, the Punjab Government and the State Director-General of Police to provide necessary security arrangements for holding the polls there. The order came on a petition by the Congress candidate from Beas, Jasbir Singh Dimpa, seeking advancing of polling from March 11 to any date before February 27. Polling in Beas was postponed by the Commission following violence in the constituency where a worker of the Shiromani Akali Dal was shot dead allegedly by a Congress activist.
