Farm women get training

CHENNAI
: The Agriculture Department in the Chitlapakkam Block in Kancheepuram district organised a training programme for women at Noothenchery near Tambaram on Thursday.
As part of the Tamil Nadu Women in Agri Business and Extension Scheme, about 50 women were provided training in agriculture-based activities. Amul, link leader for farm women groups, provided training in vermicomposting, mushroom cultivation, soap powder-making, and preparation of phenyl and home products.
P. Venkatachalapathy, Agriculture Development Officer, Chitlapakkam Block, said there were 23 farm women groups in the block. The Government has announced an incentive of Rs. 3500 to each group to start its own business, he said.
K. Elumalai, St. Thomas Mount Panchayat Union Chairman, inaugurating the training programme and distributing the incentive cheque to the women's group, asked the members to make use of the Government schemes to become entrepreneurs.
V. Velayudham, Assistant Director, Agriculture, Sriperumbudur, S. Vimala, Madambakkam town panchayat president, and agriculture officials participated.
