TAMBARAM : The Dr. Muthukumaran Committee, appointed by the Tamil Nadu Government to look into the issue of evolving a uniform syllabus for school education, will submit its report by the middle of March, said R. Kannan, Director of School Education, on Thursday. Talking to reporters after taking part in the Founders Day celebrations of the Scouts and Guides Movement at Chromepet Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Mr. Kannan said the committee had listened to representations from all sections of people involved in school education. Views of those running matriculation schools, Anglo-Indian schools and oriental schools, among others, were heard by the committee, the official said. The preparation of the report was in its final stage and was expected to be tabled by the middle of March, he added. Asked whether valuation of answer-sheets of students appearing for the Plus-Two public examinations would be lenient or strict, considering there would no entrance examinations for professional courses, Mr. Kannan said certain portions had been omitted and questions from the omitted portions would not find place in the question papers. Moreover, the omitted portions would not even find a place in the textbooks for the academic year 2007-2008, he said. More than 1,500 scouts and guides took part in a rally taken out to mark the occasion. K. Ramanujam, Chief Education Officer, Kancheepuram district, senior officials and teachers of government and private schools took part in the event.
