HYDERABAD: Four municipalities on the city outskirts will soon begin issuing marriage registration certificates in addition to the already existing sub-registrar's office, which traditionally deals with the issuing of the same. The new scheme of registering marriages and issuing certificates at municipality level is being promulgated under Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Programme being run by Women and Child Welfare Department. Kapra, Uppal, Alwal and Malkajgiri municipalities are most likely to be empowered to issue marriage certificates on the lines of birth and death certificates. To begin with, Uppal Municipality officials are going to introduce this scheme by accepting applications in a week.
`Keeping a tab'
"We feel that by introducing this concept, one will be able to keep a tab on early marriages," points out Project Officer for Integrated Child Development Service V.S. Prabhavathi. She said the Commissioner would be responsible for issuing marriage registration certificates. "At the moment, we are finalising the procedures for issuing marriage certificates," says Commissioner Uppal Kalan Municipality M.S.S. Somaraju. The municipality office would provide application forms. Wedding invitation, photos and other identity proofs should be submitted by applicants for marriage registration certificates.
