De-sealing of shops on notified roads sought

Traders told to meet zonal deputy commissioners

NEW DELHI: After the notification of the new Master Plan for Delhi-2021 by the Union Urban Development Ministry, leaders in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi are now demanding de-sealing of all the commercial properties falling on the 2,183 notified roads for commercial use that are now covered under the Plan.

Reacting to the Councillors' demand to de-seal such shops and businesses at the MCD Standing Committee meeting on Thursday, Municipal Commissioner A. K. Nigam said they had asked the affected traders and residents to present their case before the zonal deputy commissioners who after scrutinising relevant documents and would forward the case to the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee.

And if the Monitoring Committee members reject any plea or do not consider genuine cases, they might move the Court seeking relief for traders, he added.

The Municipal Commissioner denied that the sealing exercise was still going on along the notified roads even after the notification of the new Master Plan. "As per the orders of the Supreme Court, no sealing related to misuse of residential premises will take place in the Capital till April 10," he clarified.

Speaking at the meeting, Councillors from both the ruling Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party alleged that the sealing exercise was still going on at certain places. Standing Committee member and senior BJP Councillor Vijendra Gupta demanded that even shops which fell under the non-notified roads under the Master Plan be de-sealed.

The Councillors also demanded public notices to make people aware of the actual status of their units .
