Man dies after falling into pit

HYDERABAD: A visually-challenged man, Durga Naidu, 25, died on Thursday morning after slipping into a pit that was dug for constructing the elevated expressway at Mehdipatnam. He was walking to the local bus stop when the accident occurred.

The pits were not completely fenced preventing access to passers-by.

"Only some iron barricades with huge gaps in between were kept around the pits," a local said. Naidu walked through the gap between the barricades and fell into the pit and died on the spot, the Humayunnagar police said. Hailing from Visakhapatnam, Naidu used to live in the Government Hostel for the Visually Challenged at Nanalnagar.
