G.O. nothing short of censorship, says Naidu

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday night said the latest Government Order against the media was nothing short of censorship and exposed the Government's intention to target not just Eenadu but all newspapers and TV channels.

Coming as it did in the backdrop of the "witch-hunt" against Eenadu group, the order's objective was to send a stern warning to the media, he said. "It almost means we will jail you if you write anything against us. It is a black day in democracy worse than Emergency."

The very idea of constituting a "media watch" under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy with the express purpose of gleaning articles and initiating legal action against those found inconvenient to the Government was "outrageous."
