Thiruvananthapuram: The district medical administration despatched a medical team from the General Hospital and the Thycaud Women and Children hospital to the Chengalchoola colony on Thursday following reports about a large number of chickenpox cases from the locality. A statement issued by the District Medical Officer said nine persons had contracted chickenpox in the colony. At present only two persons were infected while all others had recovered. About 30 persons were given free treatment and medicine at the medical camp held there. A team of health workers also visited the houses in the colony to give awareness classes. Bleaching powder and other disinfectants were sprinkled in the drains. In the coming days, disease prevention measures and health awareness classes would be intensified with the cooperation of the city Corporation. As part of continuing health awareness classes, a session on health and hygiene would be held at the Rajaji Nagar colony at Chengalchoola on Friday.
