Two sub-stations inaugurated

Thiruvananthapuram: The power supply situation in the district is set to improve substantially with the inauguration of two 110 kv sub-stations at Attingal and Varkala on Thursday.

The sub-station at Attingal is expected to benefit 75,000 electricity consumers in the Attingal Municipality, the Kadakkavur, Anchuthengu, Manambur, Mangalapuram, Chirayinkeezh, Azhoor, Karavaram, Mudakkal, Nellanad, Pullampara and Nagaroor panchayats and neighbouring areas. The voltage in these areas would also improve by 15 per cent.

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has completed work on upgrading the 10 km-long transmission line from Pothencode to Attingal from 65 kv to 110 kv. Five new transformers have been installed to handle the additional load.

Electricity Minister A.K. Balan inaugurated the facility at a function held at the Avanavanchery Toll junction on Thursday. N. Rajan, MLA, presided over the function.

The new sub-station at Varkala will service the Varkala Municipality, the Vettoor, Cherunniyoor, Ottur, Manambur, Chemmaruthu, Idava, Ilakaman, Navayikulam and Bhoothakulam panchayats. About 55,000 consumers in these areas are expected to benefit from the improvement in the voltage situation.

The 25 km-long Attingal-Varkala transmission line via Parippally has been converted to 110 kv under the scheme. The KSEB has also installed two new transformers and allied equipment at the sub-station. This sub-station was inaugurated by the Electricity Minister at a function held at the Varkala Maidan. Varkala Kahar, MLA, presided over the function. The two new sub-stations have been installed under a programme taken up by the KSEB to reduce transmission loss, improve voltage and provide uninterrupted power.
