Probe into telecast of disclosure

Staff Reporter

Police chief and Forensic Science Director express concern

  • A private channel has telecast disclosure made by Fahad
  • Fahad and another were arrested by Mysore Police

BANGALORE: Director-General and Inspector-General of Police K.R. Sreenivasan has ordered a probe into the telecast by a private channel of the alleged disclosures made by Mohammed Fahad, one of the two Pakistani nationals arrested by Mysore Police for their alleged links with Al-Badr terrorist group, during the narco analysis test on them recently.

Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Sreenivasan said he was concerned over the telecast of the disclosures that contains "sensitive information".

"I have asked a senior officer to look into the source of the disclosure, which may be a person from the Forensic Science Laboratory or the investigating officer," Mr. Sreenivasan said.

The action follows a letter from the Forensic Science Laboratory Director B.M. Mohan expressing his concern over the telecast.

"I do not know who has leaked it. It is not fair on the part of the private channel to telecast the disclosure when the police are investigating the case. I have asked the Director General to conduct a Corps of Detective inquiry," Dr. Mohan said.

The private channel on Thursday showed Fahad saying that he had indeed planned to blast Krishnaraja Sagar Dam but had no plans to attack the Vikasa Soudha as alleged by the police.

Fahad (24) and Mohammad Ali Hussain (24) were caught by the Mysore Police in the early hours of October 27, last.

Mysore Police Commissioner Praveen Sood did not comment stating that the matter was sub judice as the case was on trial in a Sessions Court.
